Cecil A. Hyndman is my Brother.
Gus
From our childhood we worked on many real projects, simple at first, but as we grew into teen years, it was clear that Gus was a researcher. He read periodicals such as “Popular Mechanics”
Adventure led him to be constructive. He was innovative. His first achievement was a functional “steam engine”. A teenager building a Model from basic materials.
For most people , we accept the “Steam Engine” as trivial. But through his life he graduated doing bigger things.
His years at Combermere School were successful and led him to gaining a position in ‘The Barbados Telephone Company” He was consistent in what ever he did and this is reflected in the fact that he remained in the job at the Phone Company until his retirement.
His dedication can be seen during the famous Hurricane “Janet”. Gus remained at his post alone for over a week in order to restore communication services for the area.
He was an achiever.
He got things done. He was deliberate in his actions.
Yet never being a “show man” and never being a “show off”.
He was never a smoker or Alcohol drinker.
Through the years we have worked in separate areas but we were always able to have on going discussions in general, mainly technical and of course about world affairs.
In recent years although separated by geographical distance, we spoke almost every day with the aid of modern technology.
In a way he was considerate for other people. Even being benevolent in many ways.
May his legacy be an example in some way to others who follow.
He will be missed by many
